The Nausicaa Sea Life Centre at Boulogne-sur-Mer has recently launched a brand new exhibition, allowing visitors to discover the reality of an oceanographic research mission. Thalassa, the IFREMER’s (French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea) oceanographic research vessel welcomes visitors aboard to experience a storm on the sea waves, including water spray, crashing waves and gale force winds.
Visitors are also given an insight into the work of the scientists on board, so that they can get a better understanding of the results of an oceanographic research trip and marine resource management. The research programmes cover a wide range of subjects, including biodiversity, fish farming, the environment and ecosystems, bio-technologies geosciences and marine and under water technologies.
