The temporary exhibition at the In Flanders Fields Museum gives an overview of the early initiatives of medical care on the front in Flanders, illustrating the great dedication of people and resources.
One of the major breakthroughs registered during the war, was the reluctant recognition of psychological trauma and the role of medicine and psychiatry in helping the victim and his trauma.
Two Flemish museums in Ypres and Ghent have joined forces to narrate this compelling story and on the eve of the great remembrance ceremonies of the First World War this double exhibition demonstrates that attention must be paid to the fate of the people 100 years later.
